Be Careful Stating Your Income For Health Insurance Subsidy

#HealthInsurance       #Obamacare      #NevadaHealthLink

You May Have To Pay Back The IRS!

The IRS appeared before the House Ways and Means this week and stated people that miscalculated their incomes, or if the website (Nevada Health Link) miscalculated their “APTC” (advanced premium tax credits), whether intentional or not…would be responsible.  Folks that enrolled into a health insurance plan and have a government subsidy, IF your subsidies have been miscalculated, you will be required to pay this money back if your subsidies are calculated higher than you were entitled.

We gently warn our customers to be honest and careful when doing your health insurance plans through Nevada Health Link.  If you intentionally or unintentionally miscalculate your income, there will be a settlement with the IRS when you do your taxes.  This notice is not meant to scare you, but to educate and inform you.

This just solidifies our long held view that you need to be very careful and accurate when you apply for a subsidy from the Government to help you pay your premiums and that you accurately state your “MAGI” (modified adjusted gross income).  If you don’t know your MAGI, ask your accountant.  They are the best source you have to get this right.  Then call us for assistance with your health plan.

We also need to remind our clients that if you have a “Life Event”, meaning income adjustments of any kind, like adding or subtracting dependents to or from your taxes, you MUST let Nevada Health Link know.  This will help you avoid discrepancies with the IRS when you do your taxes.  The subsidies are directly tied to your tax returns, so if you have life events, you must make certain that these changes (income increases, income decreases, adding babies, children coming off your tax return, etc.,) gets reported.

Why is it important to have a Health Insurance agent?  They can help you with this…and so much more.  The costs are the same (the insurance company pays for the agent) so why not have an educated, experienced and caring professional at your service...for no additional charge!

Thank you for considering Nevada Insurance Enrollment Marketplace for your health insurance needs.

Sincerely,

Shelly Rogers

Frustration continues over Nevada Health Link

#HealthInsurance       #Obamacare      #NevadaHealthLink

Reading these current news articles and watching these videos confirm our conviction on why it’s vital to assign a licensed agent to your Health Insurance account.

Did you know that nationally 85% of all folks that used a health insurance broker to help them were very happy they used a broker!  Our goal is much higher than that.  We want ALL of our customers happy!  Having a broker assist you during the enrollment period, and throughout the rest of the year, costs you nothing and is so important. Countless problems occurred during this past enrollment season and not having someone to assist you is frustrating.  Long hold times and dealing with customer service personnel that don’t know your personal situation.

Agents and brokers not only understand the health insurance plans and how they work, they also know how their benefits will protect you individually. They understand the networks, the doctors and hospitals you can use. They will listen to you and understand your pharmacy needs and everything else involved in getting the right plan and the right support along with it.

Now that the IRS is involved with making sure you have a “qualified health plan” in place, you’ll want to avoid the penalties if at all possible.  Understanding how to avoid those penalties is important.  Now you may, however, calculate that a penalty is cheaper for you than buying a health plan, and you may want different options.  A broker can discuss these important issues.  There are so many new rules with health care reform and you’ll need an educated, pro-active broker on your side!

Assigning a Licensed Health Insurance Agent to your health insurance account will allow that agent to be your advocate for any of your health insurance needs.  This includes understanding The Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare” (Health Care Reform).  We’ll assist you when enrolling into a “qualified health plan” whether you use Nevada Health Link or not.

Price of Health Insurance – Medical Loss Ratio

#HealthInsurance       #Obamacare      #NevadaHealthLink

We’d like to comment on the price of health insurance.  Yes, we agree that insurance is very expensive these days.  It’s important to note, however, there is a clause in the Affordable Care Act that is called the MLR – Medical Loss Ratio.  This MLR states that when a family or individual buys a medical plan, 80% of every dollar collected and paid to an insurance company MUST pay medical claims.  So that leaves the insurance company to pay ALL of their expenses with the remaining 20%.
We read an article today stating that the residents in Florida, almost 1 million customers, will be receiving a $65 refund because of this rule.  The insurance company collected too much money in premiums, and had to refund their customers the overage collected.

Nevada Health Link gets a new Director and 5 Insurance Companies

HealthInsurance       Obamacare      NevadaHealthLink

There will now be five insurance companies selling their health insurance plans on the Nevada Health Link website for this next upcoming open enrollment.  These are “On Exchange” Plans.

The five insurance companies are:
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield
HPN - Health Plan of Nevada
St. Mary’s (recently changed to “Prominence”)
Nevada Health CO-OP (a not for profit health insurance company)
Time Insurance Co (otherwise known as Assurant)

We also have a new Director overseeing the Nevada Health Link website.  His name is Bruce Gilbert.  We wish Mr. Gilbert all the luck and success in the world, and have high hopes for him in fixing many of the problems that Nevada’s residents have experienced during the 1st enrollment season.

Thank you for considering Nevada Insurance Enrollment Marketplace for your health insurance needs.

Sincerely,
