What Is A Health Insurance Deductible?

A deductible is an amount you pay before the Insurance Company starts paying. Health insurance plans will have different deductibles. Low deductible examples might be a “Gold” plan, with example deductibles of $500, $1,000, $2000, etc. An example of a “Silver” plan might have a higher deductible such as $4,000, $5,000, etc. A higher deductible would be seen in a “Bronze” plan at a deductible of about $8,700. But still, what is a deductible?

Understanding Co-Insurance With a Health Plan

Co-insurance means two parties will be paying for the bill. “Co” means joint, mutual, two, or more. The health insurance company will usually pay the larger amount (example 70%) and you as the member will usually pay the lesser amount (example 30%). This would be considered co-insurance 70/30. This (co-insurance) usually happens AFTER the deductible is met.

How To Surrender Your Vehicles License Plates

Every state has its own laws for what you should do with your license plates if you sell your vehicle or cancel your auto insurance policy. In some states, you are allowed to keep personalized and vanity plates, but you must turn in regular license plates. In others, you can surrender your license plates or destroy them. It is important to ensure that you understand your state’s laws when permanently removing a license plate from your vehicle.

Be Careful Stating Your Income For Health Insurance Subsidy

The IRS appeared before the House Ways and Means and stated people that miscalculated their incomes, or if the website (Nevada Health Link) miscalculated their Advanced Premium Tax Credit (APTC), whether intentional or not…would be responsible. Folks that enrolled into a health insurance plan and have a government subsidy, IF your subsidies have been miscalculated and you were given more than entitled, you will be required to pay this money back.

What Are Essential Health Benefits And Who Has To Have Them?

Some Nevadans may qualify for a Government subsidy to help them pay for their health insurance. This is buying your health insurance “On Exchange”, meaning, you get your health plan through Nevada Health Link (however it is recommended to have the assistance of a qualified broker). If you currently have Group Coverage “offered” (whether you enroll or not) through an employer, Medicare, Medicaid, VA, Tricare, CHIP, etc., you most likely will not be eligible for a Government subsidy. You are considered covered and won’t be eligible for a subsidy. Rules change all the time, so contact us for eligibility.

On-Exchange and Off-Exchange Health Insurance Plans

On-exchange health insurance plans are purchased through government-created marketplaces online. Off-exchange health insurance plans, on the other hand, are purchased from a health insurance company. They can be purchased directly from the company or they can be purchased through an agency like Nevada Insurance Enrollment.

Buying Health Insurance With A Pre-existing Condition

You may assume that since you have a pre-existing condition, you’ll pay a higher premium than someone who is in perfect health. However, an insurer cannot reject you, refuse to pay for health benefits pertaining to your illness or injury, or charge you a higher premium because of your condition. Once you’re enrolled in the health insurance plan, the insurer can’t deny you coverage or raise your rates based only on your health. Smoking rates can be higher than non-smoking rates, however.

Why You Shouldn’t Ignore Vehicle Recalls

In 2020, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued almost 900 safety recalls affecting over 55 million vehicles. Unfortunately, one in four vehicles that were recalled were never fixed, posing a risk to the driver, the vehicle’s passengers and everyone else on the road.

What Is A Health Insurance Co-Pay?

A health insurance “Co-pay” is a set dollar amount you pay for a procedure or office visit (look at your plan summary very carefully). A co-pay is helpful because you’ll GENERALLY pay just the co-pay (unless other procedures are billed by your doctor in addition to the co-pay). For example, let’s say you see your family doctor for a sore throat. If your plan has a co-pay of $35 dollars, you’d pay the $35.

What Is An Advance Premium Tax Credit?

While having a comprehensive health insurance plan can ultimately save you thousands of dollars, it can turn out to be a big monthly expense. On average, without a government subsidy health insurance plans in Nevada cost between $160-$2,200 per month (or more) and for many, this expense is a burden. Fortunately, financial assistance is available to those who qualify, making health insurance more affordable and quality coverage more accessible for everyone.
