Health Insurance Premiums. Your premium is determined by your family size and income.

Great info on Health Insurance Premiums!  So simple but so few people know this.

Your premium is determined by your family size and income.

When you are trying to determine your portion of the PREMIUM you pay when buying a health insurance plan from the Government Website (Nevada Health Link), it is determined by your family size and income.  The subsidy you get from the government will fluctuate based on age and the number of people in your household.  The older you are the more subsidy you’ll get if you compare the subsidy to someone younger making the same amount of money with the same number of people in the household.  But the premium paid for the younger person compared to the older person will be the same no matter what the age is as long as the number of members in the household are the same and the income is the same.

The State of Nevada is using the “Benchmark” plan from HPN

The State of Nevada is using the “Benchmark” plan from HPN – Health Plan of Nevada’s plan POS Group 1 C XV 500 HCR.  This plan sets the standard as to how all the other “Qualified Health Plans’” in Nevada are now.   It creates a baseline for the 10 “Essential Health Benefits” that all other health insurance plans in Nevada are required to cover on the Individual and SHOP Exchanges, so all other plans must have essentially the same level of coverage as Nevada’s chosen “Benchmark” plan for these “Essential Health Benefits."

This benchmark plan will define the essential health benefits that must be covered from 1/1/2014 and beyond (except for grandfathered plans and large group insurance plans.)

American Indians and Health Care Reform

If you belong to an Indian Tribe, you get special consideration with health care reform.  Some of these include if your Federal Poverty Level is below 300%, you won’t have deductibles or co-pays.

American Indians have the same opportunity to apply for a subsidy just like anyone else, and you can still also use your Tribal clinics, IHS, etc.  Another advantages is you can also change your health plan monthly if you’d like, however, start dates have the normal rules like everyone else:

1.  If the person is enrolled by the 15th, they get a 1st of next month effective date.

2.  If the person is enrolled after the 15th, they get a 1st of the following month after the next month effective date.

Manufacturers Coupons For Prescription Drugs

A pharmacist told a client of mine to go to goodRX.com to get manufacturers coupons.  They paid $86 for Pulmocort/Budezonine and didn’t even use her insurance.

Insurance wanted them to pay $235 and without insurance retail was $436.

Go to http://www.goodrx.com/

President Obama is considering the possibility of allowing people to keep their old Health Insurance policies.

HUGE NEWS!

President Obama is considering the possibility of allowing people that had a plan in place prior to 12/31/2013 keeping it for 3 years, even though they are not compliant with the Affordable Care Act.  This is very big, big news!

Goes with “if you like your plan you can keep your plan” (for 3 more years.)  We’ll keep you posted.

This news one way or another has no bearing on the plans that are “Grandfathered”.

Why Assign an Agent or Broker to your Health Insurance Account?

The most important reason is there is no cost for our services to you!!  (The insurance company pays us to assist you, and your premium does not go up for this help).  As your agent, we will always be here to answer your calls and your questions. That's right, your agent, not a different person every time you call a 1-800 number out of state or out of the country, someone that doesn't know you or your situation.  We are local and right here in Nevada.

Assigning a Licensed Health Insurance Agent to your health insurance account will allow that agent to be your advocate for any of your health insurance needs.  This includes understanding The Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare” (Health Care Reform).  We’ll assist you when enrolling into a “qualified health plan” whether you use Nevada Health Link or not, and teach you the importance of avoiding future problems with the IRS, how to understand the insurance plan benefits.

After you’ve enrolled into insurance, we’ll be here for any membership communication you’ll need with the insurance company, assist with billing questions, doctors or provider network questions and claims problems, verifying your prescriptions, and so much more.  But most importantly do it with a pleasant and informed attitude.

As we move together into future years through health care reform, you’ll want a solid relationship with someone that you trust and know and that knows you too!  No matter where you sign up, the costs are all the same, so why not have an educated, experienced and caring professional at your service...for no additional charge!

Make sure when completing your application to type in SHELLY ROGERS for your broker to guarantee quality service.

Health Insurance / Health Care Reform | Worries about Full Timers Being Reduced to Part Time

US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT

Obamacare Hasn't Caused a Shift to Part-Time Work ... Yet

By APARNA MATHURSITA SLAVOV

January 2, 2014
There has been considerable controversy in recent months about whether the Affordable Care Act is causing employers to shift towards a part-time workforce.  For example, in a recent television interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," television journalist Maria Bartiromo suggested that as a result of Obamacare, we are becoming "something of a part-time employment country."  In addition, a recent article in Forbes (click here for article) points to anecdotal evidence that a number of employers, including restaurants and universities, have been replacing full-time workers with part-time ones.  This shift towards part-time work is occurring, they argue, because the ACA requires large employers to offer health insurance to full-time workers (defined as those who put in 30 hours a week or more) starting in 2015.

But this anecdotal evidence isn't borne out in the data for the labor force as a whole.  In fact, there's very little evidence to suggest that ACA has led to an increase in part-time work thus far.  However, research on a state-level employer insurance mandate suggests that it could well have such an effect in the future.

The graph below shows the fraction of all employees who were working part time (35 hours per week or less) in September of each year since 2009.  Because some individuals work part time by choice, we've focused only on those working part time for economic reasons, or involuntarily.

As Obamacare's defenders have repeatedly pointed out, this number has actually fallen steadily since the passage of the law.  But that is not very informative because the trend in part-time work simply tells us that the labor market has been recovering; it tells us nothing about the impact of ACA.  To determine the impact of ACA, we need to figure out whether the share of part-time workers is higher or lower than it would have been in the absence of the health care law.

Enrolling into a Nevada Health COOP plan? Double check that your DOCTOR will accept your new health insurance.

If you are enrolling into a Nevada Health COOP plan specifically because your provider (your doctor) is on the Nevada Health Link website (and it shows that your doctor will take your plan); we HIGHLY recommend you double check that your physician will take the Nevada Health COOP plan you are enrolling into.

In other words, even though the Nevada Health Link states your doctor will accept your plan, you should still call your doctor and verify.  In addition, when you talk to the doctors office, you must ask if your specific doctor accepts your plan because some doctors, even in the same office, may or may not accept the same plans.

You can check the Nevada Health COOP Network before settling on a plan.  Click on this link:   http://nevadahealthcoop.org/providers/find-provider/

This rule should apply to any plan you enroll into.

Health Insurance | Nevada Health Link is NOT the only shop in town | Las Vegas, Nevada

Let’s use the analogy of the Governments “Marketplace” to buy health insurance as if it were an Auto Dealership.  The Governments “Marketplace” or in our example, an Auto Dealership, is really an online website in which you can get your Ford, Chevy or your Honda.  If your income falls within a bracket of 138% to 400% of the federal poverty level, the Government will help contribute each month towards the payment of your new car.

Now the way the Government is marketing their website may lead you to believe that their website is the ONLY place to buy a car these days, but that is NOT the case!  You can continue to buy your Ford, Chevy and Honda or select others like Hummer or Toyota or Dodge or Jeep (you get the picture) from the same dealerships you’ve always bought your “car” from.

You can buy “compliant” health plans from the same places you’ve always bought health insurance and continue to enjoy the friendly, knowledgeable assistance an experienced agent provides.  Using a Private “Marketplace” (like NevadaInsuranceEnrollment.com) you have the ability to shop numerous insurance companies and choose the policy best suited to your personal needs.

So the next time you hear an advertisement about the Nevada Health Link, remember, they are NOT the only shop in town.  Remind yourself of this article and know there are many private “Marketplaces” that can still sell health insurance to you.
